Gary Hendren
Gary Hendren is a registered architect with over 50 years of experience in
architecture and construction. A native of Miami, Florida, Gary grew up immersed
in the construction industry, working summers as a carpenter, attending a technical high school with drafting programs, and gaining early experience in architectural offices. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from the University of Florida and completed his professional degree at the Boston Architectural Center. Gary has managed his own architectural firm for nearly four
decades. His work spans diverse geographies, including St. Thomas, USVI, and Grand Cayman, where he gained first-hand experience with hurricanes and other extreme weather events, shaping his deep understanding of resilient building strategies. Motivated by the destruction of homes in hurricane-prone areas such as Great Abaco Island in the Bahamas, Gary developed the Sustainable Alternative Modular (SAM) House panel system.
